Expo

Expo is a framework and toolset built on React Native, and it is the backbone of building a native mobile app without being a native developer. It lets you write your app once in JavaScript and ship it as a genuine native app to both the Apple App Store and Google Play. Instead of maintaining two separate native codebases in Swift and Kotlin, you maintain one, and Expo handles the plumbing that turns it into real iOS and Android apps.

The reason Expo is the right stack for building with AI is that it removes the native-development learning curve that used to block beginners. Expo manages build configuration, over-the-air updates, and the common device APIs - camera, notifications, storage - through simple JavaScript, so you never have to configure a native project by hand. That is exactly what makes it possible for Claude Code to write your app: it generates React Native code inside an Expo project, and Expo turns that code into something the stores accept. You describe the app in plain English, Claude Code writes the Expo code, and you ship it.

The mistake new builders make is reaching for the most complex setup because they think 'real' apps require it. They do not.
